Living with LD is an emotionally vascilating experience. In areas of strength life is easy and success comfortably achieved. In areas of weakness, there is frustration over (1) disappointed expectations, (2) obstacles interfering with achievement, and (3) feelings of jealousy and anger. To elaborate

  1. Disappointed Expectations: It’s frustrating not being able to do what others can do but you cannot. In some areas, no matter how hard people try. what seems easy for others is difficult to reach or out of reach. Students can work harder than others and still only get a C. A brilliant math student may still flunk French.

  2. Obstacles interfering with achievement: It’s frustrating not being able to do what you know you can do. For example, you may know the answers but not be able to pass tests because of time constraints. Others who write well but cannot speak comfortable may Ace written exams but fail oral reports.

  3. Feelings of jealousy and anger: It’s frustrating to like a friend but still feel jealous and angry because that person can write a paper in one night where it may take you one or two months to do the same thing. It’s really not fair that some people have to work so much harder than others.
